    A Report on 7-Day Online Faculty Development Programme

    “Research Methodology and Teaching Pedagogy”

    INTRODUCTION:

    ‘Seven-day Faculty Development Program on Research Methodology and Teaching Pedagogy’ was conducted virtually on zoom  by Metas Adventist College, Surat from 5th July to 7th July 2021.  The program was conducted in joint collaboration with DBIM department of veer Narmad south Gujarat university Surat. The program was conducted as a part of the initiative to enhance the faculty competencies in the area of pedagogy and research. The program was attended by 20 faculty members of commerce and management departments of Metas Adventist College, Surat. The program was enriching and intellectually stimulating for the participating faculty

    Day – 1:  05/07/2021, Monday

    The programme had started with welcoming resource person Dr. Renuka Garg and Dr. Manish Siddhpuria by Dr. Priya Naranayan, Associate Professor METAS Adventist College. The Morning Prayer was offered by Dr. N. Mohan Sir, Academic Dean.  After that Dr. Priya Narayanan has introduced the esteemed speakers.  The 1st day session was started by Dr. Renuka ma’am, she highlighted on the topics like research methods and research methodology. Ma’am has also explained about research ethics and plagiarism. The way how mam had explained the topics was excellent. The 2nd session on first day was conducted by Dr. Manish Siddhpuria, he had discussed about literature review, importance of literature review, why literature review is important? etc. Resource persons, had made clear all the doubts of participants. Participants were extremely satisfied and happy with both the sessions. Both the sessions had given deep insights about research methodology and literature review in the minds of young learners. Lastly, the first day session was ended by proposing vote of thanks by Ms. Rajul Shah, Asst. Professor.

    DAY TWO: 06/07/2021

    Day two of the program started with the welcome note to the guest’s speakers by Ms. Ranjita Bhowmick Shastri, Assistant Professor at Faculty of Management, Metas Adventist College, Surat. Ms. Ranjita Bhowmick welcomed the guests and the participants. The morning prayers were offered by Mr. Kishore Kalapala. The session started with a short presentation given by Ms. Tushti Bakrania on the topic- “Consumer’s perception on buying green products” into which she provided valuable insights her area of research. 

    After Presentation, the session was headed by Dr. Manish V. Sidhpuria sir where he focused on how to identify Research gap, how to design/formulate Research problem, design research objectives and formulate research hypothesis. He also gave examples for types of research design and strategies implemented in each research design.

    The second session started with the welcome of Dr Renuka Garg Ma’am. She gave an exemplary description on how to use mix mode research design. At the conclusion, vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Parvez Malek.

    Day Three- dated 07/07/2021

     Day third of the programme started with the welcome note to the guests speakers by Ms Miti B Dhupia. Assistant Professor at Faculty of Commerce, Metas Adventist College, Surat. Ms Miti B Dhupia welcomed the guests and the participants. The morning prayers were offered by Mr Shyam Prasad Sir. After a short presentation about his research proposal given by Mr Parvez Malik Sir into which he provided valuable insights his research area.  The second day of the program included talks on technique and Procedure, Measurement and scaling Technique. The first session was covered by Dr Manish Sidhpuria. He gave practical and hands on experience on technique and Procedure, Measurement and scaling Technique. He indicated the paramount role of training the faculty with respect to reviewing research and using the right scaling design.

    The second session started with the welcome of Dr Renuka Garg Ma’am. She gave an exemplary description of the whole process of Data Collection Instrument Design with pieces of practical incident from her life. Dr. Renuka Garg  in her talk on Data Collection Instrument Design emphasized the importance of Unstructured, semi structured and structured Questionnaire  which is the buzzword to conduct quality research culminating in impactful publications in top notch business journals. This marked the end on third day programme. At the conclusion, vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Vandana Pareek Ma’am.

    Day Four- Dated 08/07/2021

     Day four of the programme started with the welcome note to the guest’s speakers by Ms Surabhi Sugathan, Assistant Professor; Faculty of Management, Metas Adventist College, Surat. Ms Surabhi Sugathan welcomed the guests and the participants. The morning prayers were offered by Mr. N Mohan Rao Sir. After a short presentation about her research proposal given by Ms. Vineeta Chopra Ma’am into which she provided valuable insights in her research area.  The fourth day of the program included talks on Sampling design and procedure. The first session was covered by Dr Manish Sidhpuria. He gave practical and hands on experience on studying the population, sampling frame, sampling size, sampling unit, sampling techniques. He indicated the paramount role of training the faculty with respect to reviewing research and using the right sampling design.

    The second session started with the welcome of Dr Renuka Garg Ma’am. She gave an exemplary description of writing an effective Research Proposal with the use of sampling techniques and methods Dr. Renuka Garg in her talk on effective writing she emphasized on Research Project and Research Proposal. This marked the end on fourth day programme. At the conclusion, vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Vishwa Kikaganesh Ma’am.

    Day Five- dated 09/7/21

    Day five of the programme started with the welcome note to the guests speakers by Ms Vineeta Chopra. Assistant Professor at Faculty of Commerce, Metas Adventist College, Surat. Ms     Vineeta Chopra welcomed the guests and the participants. The morning prayers were offered by Mr Kishore Kalapala Sir. The  day of the program included how to identify research problems. The first session was covered by Dr Renuka Garg which covered back up plan, cluster approach, Identify the problem/decision statement.

    The second session started with the welcome of Dr Manish Sidhpuria sir .He mentioned about the type of management cases, major components of case study and case writing guidelines. Then there was a small presentation by Ms Rajula Shah, Assistant Professor. This marked the end on fifth day program me. At the conclusion, vote of thanks was proposed by Ms Victoria Lucas Ma’am.

    Day six-   dated 10-7-21

    Research proposal preparation by  the participants.

    The participants were divided into four groups and were asked to prepare complete research proposals using the methodology explained by the resource persons.

    Day seven –dated 11-7-21

    The program started with welcome done by the host i.e Ms. Tushti .P. Bakrania. Followed by prayer done by Mr. Khirod Dalapati. As it was last day it was time for presentations from faculties.

    Presentations were in the below mentioned sequence

    1. Ms. Vandana and Group -  Topic – Preference of Salaried person towards mutual Fund and    Evaluation of Selected Schemes.

    2. Mr. Parve Malek & Group – Topic –  Challenges in executing & Implementing Entrepreneurial Education in India.

    3. Ms. Vishwa Kikaganesh & Group – Topic – “ A study on customer satisfaction after sales service of two wheeler in Gujarat Rural”

    4. Ms. Ranjita & Group – Topic – “ Measuring impact of covid 19 pandemic on readiness in adoption of e-health practises among patients in Surat District.

    All the groups members were given feedback by both the faculty Member Dr. Manish Sidhpuriya  Sir and Dr. Renuka Garg Mam. After every groups presentation the suggestions were given which helped researchers to improve in their research and there concepts were cleared. Questions and Answer session was also conducted. Questions were asked by faculties and they were answered by the speakers.

    Speakers were happy with interactive participants and knowledge gained by faculties was satisfactory.

    The session ended with vote of Thanks from Ms. Ranjita.
