    CHESS COMPETITION

Chess is a board game for two players, called White and Black, each controlling an army of chess pieces in their colour, with the objective to checkmate the opponent's king. It is sometimes called international chess or Western chess to distinguish it from related games, such as Xiangqi (Chinese chess) and Shogi (Japanese chess).Chess is an abstract strategy game that involves no hidden information and no elements of chance. It is played on a chessboard with 64 squares arranged in an 8×8 grid.

With chess being such a tactical game, wherein each player must formulate his/her own strategies to counter their opponents.

A Chess tournament was organised to boost the interest of students. A board game like chess involves students a lot more, especially because of the tactical aspect. It also boosts the focus of the students. A valuable educational tool, studies have found that children who play chess significantly improve their visual memory, attention span and spatial-reasoning ability. Students improved their game, developed their problem-solving and decision-making skills, and had fun at the same time.
