Group Reading as part of the Book Lovers’ Festival

Introduction :

Metas Adventist College, Surat as per the instructions of GTU had celebrated the “Group Reading” as part of “the Book Lovers’ Festival” in the College Library on February 14, 2025 between 10.15a.m. to 10.40 a.m. as a collaborative event involving both students and faculty members. The event aimed to promote the love of reading. This initiative was organized to highlight the importance of reading in both academic and personal growth, and to create an environment where the participants could come together to share their favorite books, authors, and literary genres.

Objectives of the Event:

1. To foster a reading culture among students and faculty members.
2. To promote personal development through reading.
3. To provide a platform for participants to share their literary interests and insights.

Book Reading Session :

Students and faculty were invited to read their favorite books in the event. A wide variety of genres were represented, from fiction and non-fiction to academic texts and self-help books. Some students and faculty silently read their chosen books. This created an atmosphere of silence, allowing the audience to immerse and concentrate in their reading.

Attendance and Participation :

The event saw an enthusiastic turnout, with participation from over 40 students and 10 faculty members. The attendees ranged from first-year students to post-graduate scholars, creating a diverse and inclusive environment for literary participation. The enthusiasm from the student was particularly inspiring, as one of them shared her personal journeys with reading and how literature had influenced her career.

Impact and Feedback :

The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. Many students expressed how the event encouraged them to make reading a regular part of their routine and how they felt inspired by the recommendations of their peers and professors. Faculty members also noted the benefit of reconnecting with their passion for literature and the opportunity to engage with students on a more personal level outside of the classroom.

One of the most notable outcomes was the formation of small reading groups, which some participants decided to continue meeting in the future to discuss books on a regular basis. This created a lasting sense of community and fostered further intellectual collaboration beyond the event.

Conclusion :

Book Love Festival was a resounding success in promoting a culture of reading and intellectual engagement within the college community. It facilitated meaningful interactions between students and faculty, while also emphasizing the importance of literature in personal and academic growth. The event helped ignite a renewed enthusiasm for reading and provided a valuable space for sharing literary insights. Going forward, the college plans to make this an annual event, with hopes of expanding participation and incorporating additional activities such as author talks and writing workshops.
